Chicago (That Toddlin’ Town)

/

One of my most recent vows to myself is that I would try to travel more. Perhaps in this age where the benchmarks of adulthood are getting slower and slower my quarter life crisis decided to wait 10 years to really appear. That is not to say that I hate getting older. Quite the contrary, I’ve found myself to be one of the few people excited for a blue plate special and a game of Bingo. I always knew I would be the most my own in middle age and older. But for me 35 did have a way of really crystalizing these inner yearnings to start doing the things that I wanted.

So I took my first opportunity to travel to see my oldest friend, Patrick, in the opening night of Sigfried at Chicago Lyric Opera where he was performing as Faufner, a Giant disguised as a Dragon (aren’t we all…)

How bad ass is this dragon, right?

The weekend not only included a fabulous performance by  by best friend  and an opening night party where I got to pose in one of my favorite gold lame jackets but also other wonderful adventures.

It’s an amazing feeling to feel like there’s gold wherever you go. So much gold, I’m so spoiled. Jacket from a NYC Thrift store. Jumpsuit by Dress Barn, because why not?

The next day (after nursing a comfortable morning after handover of course) I decided to take on an adventure of an entirely differently color: discount  thrifting. After sifting for some time I departed victorious with three very different items:

As glad as I am to be home with my darling cats, this trip had made me yearn for my next trip. Where should I go??

I would describe my style and attitude as…

A cross between Iris Apfel, Miriam Margoles, Lucille Ball. But I am a devoted maximalist through and through. Although, as another inspiration once said

Style—all who have it share one thing: originality.
