Vintage Train December 2018

/

Happy New Year! I, like so many of us, got caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holidays and forgot to post about this super fun experience NYC is honored to have every year.

“I like trains. I like their rhythm, and I like the freedom of being suspended between two places, all anxieties of purpose taken care of: for this moment I know where I am going.”

Anna Funder, Stasiland: Stories from Behind the Berlin Wall

I’ve been wanting to do the MTA’s December Vintage Train Ride for so long but never had the opportunity to until this year. If you’re not from the area once a year during Sundays in December the Transit Museum takes old trains out of storage and runs them and you can ride them for the cost of a metro swipe. This year’s train was compromised of train cars from the 1930s. I tried to dress as predominately 1930s as my humble wardrobe would allow.

While being on the cars is fun the advertisements are also super kitschy and a lot of vintage fun.

I found a kindred spirit in my new friend Eddie who has a keen eye for historical accuracy and loves both vintage trains, fashion, and movies.

I wish I had had the time to do more than just one Sunday and want to go to more next year. Enjoy the photos!

I would describe my style and attitude as…

A cross between Iris Apfel, Miriam Margoles, Lucille Ball. But I am a devoted maximalist through and through. Although, as another inspiration once said

Style—all who have it share one thing: originality.
