My Date Night With Blucifer

/

Hello dear readers. Long time no write. I was trying to figure out what I should write about and then inspiration presented itself in the form of the most hellacious travel day of my adult life. What was supposed to be a two hour flight from Santa Rosa to Denver turned into a five hour jaunt to New Mexico (I don’t want to talk about how I didn’t even know those two states were so close) and then back to Denver where we were trapped for close to 24 hours. And even on that rescheduled flight, the weather on our way into the airport seemed beautiful and downright picturesque, however when wewe got on the flight, the skies opened up and turned on us. We were faced with ANOTHER hour and a half delay. It made me scream “what the fuck is wrong with this place, is this haunted?” When I recounted the horrors at a dinner once were back, I was met with a resounding “Yes it’s notoriously haunted!” Because apparently I was unaware that Denver is “haunted” with a plethora of conspiracy theories and a horse that is likened to a demon. So of course I went on a bit of a deep dive and needed to share what I found.

They say that eyes are the windows to the soul. Do you know what the window treatment is that welcomes you into Denver airport? A 32 foot horse statue standing on its hind legs with red glowing eyes of course! Blue Mustang is a statue by Luis Jimenez that quite literally is responsible for the death of its creator. At one point of it’s creation a piece of the horse fell on Jimenez and severed an artery in his leg. By the time he was found, he was dead. Paying no attention to the bad vibes on this work of art, his family dedicated themselves to finishing it. So it sits, welcoming people to the country’s largest airport, it’s red neon eyes lighting the way. It has been nicknames “Blucifer” which makes me cackle.

Speaking of art, there is a ton of it that inside the airport. A robust public art program that requires 1% of the project’s budget be allocation to public art, so this airport has many more pieces of art than any other I’ve been in. There are gargoyles guarding the luggage claim and the entire building has these white tents meant to invoke the memory of indigenous people who lived there originally. However, I think nothing strikes a darker note than the mural “Children of the World Live in Peace” which features a Nazi brandishing a knife. Not necessarily what you’d want to see right before getting on a plane.

So what are the actual rumors? There are several. One is that the tunnels down below the airport will serve as a bunker for the rich when the end finally comes, when the “New World Order” begins. Maybe there are lizard people who are already living down there? Or perhaps the airport will be some sort of camp when the new regime comes?

I’m unsure if these theories are true but I do know one thing: I will do everything in my power to avoid gazing into Bluciver’s eyes again.

I would describe my style and attitude as…

A cross between Iris Apfel, Miriam Margoles, Lucille Ball. But I am a devoted maximalist through and through. Although, as another inspiration once said

Style—all who have it share one thing: originality.
